You may now be aware of the small charity Orkidstudio, through my fundraising work with them. They are a brilliant, young and dedicated team of architects and volunteers, who travel the world, creating buildings that become the heart of communities.
James Mitchell and his team have just come back from Zambia, where they have spent the last 7 weeks completing the Mutende II project. I caught up with them in their penultimate week on a skype call which you can hear in full here. Located in the heart of Zambia’s copperbelt region, The Mutende Project II has been the construction of a large hall space, which can be sub-divided into three classrooms, for the Harold Mwenge Memorial Academy which the Mutende founded on a neighbouring site in 2010. These new facilities will more than double the existing study space and enable the school to provide education for many more children in the local area.
Here are some pictures from Orkidstudio’s fantastic summers work.
